Perrin’s Blazing 72 Hands Rockets Another Defeat in The Hundred
Teenage sensation Davina Perrin stole the spotlight with a dazzling unbeaten 72 off just 40 balls, leading Northern Superchargers to a dominant eight-wicket victory over a struggling Trent Rockets side in The Hundred Women’s Competition.
At just 18, Perrin showcased maturity beyond her years, delivering her maiden half-century in the tournament — the second-highest score by an uncapped English woman in the competition’s history. Her effort not only secured a second successive win for the Superchargers but also lifted them to the top of the table.
Speaking after the match, Perrin said:
"I had a conversation with one of the coaches before and he said: 'What are you going to do when you go out?' And I was like: 'have fun,'" she revealed. "It was a pretty decent deck, it was coming onto the bat nicely, so it allowed me to lean into it and just try and play strong shots."
The Superchargers’ bowlers laid the foundation for the win early, reducing the Rockets to 5 for 3 inside the first 18 balls. Despite a counter-attacking 61 off 32 balls from Rockets captain Ash Gardner, who played a lone hand in a total of 128 for 8, the score proved insufficient on a sunny afternoon at Trent Bridge.
Kate Cross was instrumental with the ball, claiming 3 for 31, keeping the pressure on throughout the innings.
In reply, Perrin took charge from the outset. She dominated a 62-run opening stand with Alice Davidson-Richards and continued her aggressive strokeplay with flair, including a remarkable one-handed scoop. Phoebe Litchfield added a brisk 22 off 10, while Annabel Sutherland sealed the chase in style with a reverse-swept boundary, as the Superchargers finished on 129 for 2.
It was a commanding all-round performance from the team in purple, who appear to be early title contenders. For Trent Rockets, however, the season is quickly slipping away as they remain winless, with the pressure mounting to turn things around.
