Trent Rockets Edge Northern Superchargers to Extend Winning Start in The Hundred

The Trent Rockets maintained their unbeaten start to The Hundred Men’s Competition with a composed five-wicket win over Northern Superchargers at a packed Trent Bridge. In their first home outing of the season, the Rockets successfully chased down 125 with four balls to spare, making it two wins from two after their earlier victory over Birmingham Phoenix.

Chasing a modest 125, openers Tom Banton and Rehan Ahmed laid a solid foundation for the Rockets. Banton, who top-scored with 37, played fluently through the off side, while Rehan contributed a vital 31. Despite some middle-order hiccups and disciplined bowling from the Superchargers, the Rockets held their nerve, with Marcus Stoinis and Adam Hose guiding them home in front of 13,497 enthusiastic fans.

Earlier, the Superchargers, coached by Andrew Flintoff, struggled to post a challenging total on a dry surface that offered assistance to the spinners. Harry Brook (45) and Graham Clark (36) stitched together a 56-run stand that formed the backbone of their innings, but the Rockets’ bowlers kept the pressure on.

Akeal Hosein and Rehan Ahmed each picked up two wickets, exploiting the surface expertly. However, it was Marcus Stoinis who delivered the game's turning point, dismissing both Brook and Clark in consecutive balls during a five-ball spell that astonishingly cost no runs.

Superchargers’ bowlers, particularly Imad Wasim and Adil Rashid, made a fight of the defence. Wasim claimed 3 for 19, including two in two balls, while Rashid was characteristically economical and also picked up two wickets. Yet, the Rockets’ batting depth ultimately proved decisive.

After being named Meerkat Match Hero, Akeal Hosein reflected on the team’s win and his performance:

"I was grateful for that start and thankful to be able to put my team in a winning position early on. Both ends of the pitch played differently, and it was about adapting to those conditions. It’s a happy, talented bunch here, and we all have one goal."

He added with a smile:

"I had no pads on when I walked across from the dressing room — that’s how confident I was in the boys to get over the line. It was closer than we would have liked, but we’re glad to finish the job."

With two wins in as many games, the Rockets have laid down an early marker in the 2025 edition of The Hundred, while the Superchargers will look to regroup after back-to-back defeats.
