Budinger Blasts 75-Ball Century as Leicestershire Cruise to Victory Over Nottinghamshire
A blistering century from former Nottinghamshire opener Sol Budinger and a career-best five-wicket haul by Liam Trevaskis powered Leicestershire to a commanding 124-run win over local rivals Nottinghamshire in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.
Budinger, facing his old club, smashed a thrilling 102 off just 80 balls to set the tone for Leicestershire’s imposing total of 333 for 8. The left-hander, who launched 13 fours and three sixes, reached his century off 75 deliveries and was eventually dismissed by a spectacular boundary catch from Joe Pocklington.
It was Budinger’s second century in three visits to Kibworth and featured a dominant 106-run stand with Shan Masood (50) for the third wicket. Late acceleration from Peter Handscomb (45), Trevaskis (45), and Ben Mike (25 off 13) added 99 runs in the final 10 overs to take the hosts well past 300.
Pocklington, a 24-year-old left-arm spinner playing just his fourth match for Nottinghamshire, continued to impress, picking up 2 for 45.
In response, Nottinghamshire were bowled out for 209 in 35.4 overs, with Trevaskis wreaking havoc through the middle order. The left-arm spinner finished with a personal best of 5 for 52 as Leicestershire claimed their second win in three games to remain among the Group A leaders.
Despite a fluent 56 from Jack Haynes, none of Nottinghamshire’s top six could build a lasting innings, with only Haseeb Hameed (23) and Lyndon James (22) offering brief resistance.
After a promising start, reaching 57 for 1 in 10 overs, the Outlaws faltered under scoreboard pressure. Haynes’ dismissal—trapped lbw by Trevaskis—triggered a collapse. The spinner went on to dismiss Tom Moores, Sam Seecharan, James, and Brett Hutton, wrapping up a dominant bowling performance.
Teenager Alex Green continued his breakthrough tournament, claiming his 11th wicket by removing Pocklington with a catch at midwicket.
The defeat compounds Nottinghamshire’s woes, marking their second heavy loss to East Midlands opposition in four days after a 127-run hammering by Derbyshire.
For Leicestershire, the victory was a complete team performance, headlined by Budinger’s explosive batting and Trevaskis’ all-round excellence, giving them valuable momentum in the One-Day Cup campaign.
