Sciver-Brunt Stars as Trent Rockets Down Unbeaten Spirit for First Win at Lord’s
Trent Rockets claimed their first win of the 2025 Hundred season with a commanding 33-run victory over previously unbeaten London Spirit at Lord’s, powered by Nat Sciver-Brunt’s explosive half-century and a standout bowling display led by Kirstie Gordon and Ash Gardner.
Having lost their opening two matches, the Rockets were under pressure, but they responded with an all-round performance that halted Spirit’s perfect start to the campaign and showcased the depth of their star-studded lineup.
Sciver-Brunt Leads Rockets’ Charge
Batting first, the Rockets posted 149 for 6 in their 100 balls, thanks largely to a blazing 51 not out off just 29 balls from Meerkat Match Hero Nat Sciver-Brunt — her ninth career half-century in The Hundred and second of the tournament.
She was well-supported by Bryony Smith (42) and Nat Wraith, who helped set the tone with a 62-run opening stand in just 36 balls. The pair smashed nine boundaries and two sixes before falling in quick succession to Spirit's Eva Gray, whose clever changes of pace earned her a career-best 4 for 19.
Ash Gardner added further momentum alongside Sciver-Brunt, contributing to a 60-run stand as the Rockets remained on top despite a spirited fightback from the Spirit bowling unit. Issy Wong bowled with fire late in the innings, and Sarah Glenn’s tight spell of 1 for 20 added control, but Sciver-Brunt finished with a flourish — launching her fourth six of the competition over long-on from the final delivery to raise her fifty.
Spirit Falter in the Chase
London Spirit’s reply never gained traction. Wickets fell consistently, and hopes of a successful chase were dashed when in-form Australian powerhouse Grace Harris was dismissed for just 8, caught at deep midwicket off the impressive Gordon.
Charli Knott offered brief resistance with a run-a-ball 33, but her innings only softened the margin of defeat, as Spirit were bowled out for 116 with five balls to spare.
Gordon was outstanding, finishing with 4 for 15, while Gardner (2 wickets) and Alana King stifled the middle overs with tight lines and clever variations, showing the kind of control that could make the Rockets genuine contenders despite their sluggish start.
Sciver-Brunt: “Brilliant to Get That First Win”
Speaking after the match, Sciver-Brunt expressed relief and optimism:
“It feels brilliant to get that first win of the tournament. We were all really excited to play at Lord’s — what a ground. And to get points on the board after doing well in patches [in the first two games] was really important.
Ash Gardner is massively important to us, she’s our key allrounder and she’s really leading us, putting her foot on it.”
Match Summary:
Trent Rockets – 149 for 6 (Sciver-Brunt 51*, Smith 42; Gray 4-19)
London Spirit – 116 all out (Knott 33; Gordon 4-15, Gardner 2 wkts)
With this win, Trent Rockets inject life into their campaign, while Spirit are reminded that no team is unbeatable in this ultra-competitive tournament.
