Middlesex Clinch Back-to-Back Wins Despite Lintott's Five-For in Tight Win Over Warwickshire
Middlesex continued their resurgence in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup with a hard-fought 28-run victory over Warwickshire at Rugby School, making it back-to-back away wins despite a superb five-wicket haul from Jake Lintott.
On a turning pitch, Middlesex posted 217 after opting to bat first, with contributions across the top order, though none were able to reach fifty. Captain Ben Geddes top-scored with 48, while Joshua De Caires added 43 and Luke Hollman chipped in with a valuable 33. Lintott was the standout bowler for Warwickshire, claiming 5 for 37 — equaling his best List A figures — including a dramatic triple-wicket maiden to close the innings.
In reply, Warwickshire never quite found momentum, falling for 189 in the 44th over, with Hollman again playing a pivotal role — this time with the ball — taking 4 for 27 to complete a fine all-round performance.
Lintott’s Five-For Limits Middlesex
Fresh from their record chase at Durham, Middlesex were asked to bat first again. But this time, they found stroke play far trickier. Despite a solid platform — four of the top six passed 30 — no one could anchor the innings with a big score.
Geddes and De Caires were the most fluent, while Jack Davies added 31, but spin derailed the innings in the latter overs. Lintott proved particularly effective, using flight and variation to trap three batters lbw, including Geddes and Luke Hollman. He wrapped up the innings in style with a triple-wicket maiden in the 47th over, as Middlesex collapsed from 157 for 3 to 217 all out.
Hollman Stars With the Ball to Seal the Win
Warwickshire started steadily in the chase, reaching 61 for 1 with only Ed Barnard dismissed early. But Middlesex’s spin attack soon turned the tide.
Hollman broke the stand by removing Zen Malik and Alex Davies in quick succession, while veteran Henry Brookes claimed the key wicket of Rob Yates (38), who had looked set.
With the run rate climbing and the pitch offering assistance to the spinners, Warwickshire’s middle order faltered. Shaikh top-scored with 42 but fell to Fernandes charging down the pitch. Hollman returned to pick up two more wickets, and De Caires bowled Olly Hannon-Dalby to seal victory as Warwickshire’s last six wickets fell for just 44 runs.
What It Means
The win lifts Middlesex’s hopes of qualification as they continue to build momentum in Group B, following their record chase against Durham. For Warwickshire, however, it was a second consecutive defeat, despite the heroics of Lintott, as their batting unit faltered in a modest chase.
