Jack Haynes Century Keeps Nottinghamshire’s Qualification Hopes Alive with Commanding Win Over Glamorgan

Jack Haynes produced a match-winning century to guide Nottinghamshire Outlaws to a dominant seven-wicket victory over Glamorgan, keeping their T20 Blast qualification hopes alive. The 24-year-old struck a fluent 124 to help chase down Glamorgan's 278 for 9 with ease at Trent Bridge.

Haynes, who accelerated brilliantly in the latter stages of his innings, shared a 141-run third-wicket stand with Haseeb Hameed, who finished unbeaten on 58. The win condemned defending champions Glamorgan to yet another defeat in a season where they remain winless.

Earlier, Glamorgan had made a brisk start after being put in to bat. Openers Eddie Byrom (62) and Asa Tribe (35) put on 71 for the first wicket before debutant Byron Hatton-Lowe, just 18 years old, claimed his maiden professional wicket by removing Tribe.

Byrom continued to anchor the innings while the middle order faltered, with contributions from Henry Hurle, Kiran Carlson, and Will Smale falling short. Billy Root managed to steady things with a composed 56, but a lack of boundary scoring and a middle-order collapse meant Glamorgan were unable to capitalize. Dan Douthwaite’s late cameo provided a boost, yet the total remained below par on a batting-friendly pitch.

Nottinghamshire’s chase began smoothly, despite the early loss of Ben Martindale. Ben Slater (41) combined with Haynes for a 75-run stand, laying a solid platform. Once Slater departed, Hameed joined Haynes to consolidate and accelerate, with the pair completely taking the game away from Glamorgan.

Despite an impressive spell from 18-year-old Romano Franco, who picked up his first professional wicket and returned tidy figures, Glamorgan were undone by sloppy fielding. A crucial dropped catch by Andy Gorvin, with Haynes on 68, proved particularly costly.

Asa Tribe also picked up his maiden wicket for Glamorgan, following Franco and Hatton-Lowe as debut wicket-takers in the match, but by then the game had slipped well out of their hands.

The result lifts Nottinghamshire’s hopes of sneaking into the knockout rounds, while Glamorgan’s miserable title defence continues with yet another defeat.
