Cape Town to Host SA20 Final; Playoffs Set for Durban, Centurion, and Johannesburg

Cape Town’s iconic Newlands stadium will once again be at the heart of the SA20 action, hosting both the opening match and the grand final of the 2025-26 season. The tournament will kick off on December 26, with defending champions MI Cape Town facing Durban's Super Giants in a blockbuster Boxing Day opener. The final will be staged a month later, on January 25.

In a notable first, Durban has been selected to host Qualifier 1 on January 21, marking the city’s debut as a playoff venue. The Eliminator will take place in Centurion on January 23, followed by Qualifier 2 at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium on January 24.

A "Lively Atmosphere" Expected at Newlands Final

Graeme Smith, SA20 League Commissioner, expressed optimism about the upcoming season, highlighting the decision to return the final to Cape Town after a series of sell-out games at Newlands last season.

“The SA20 Season 4 is shaping up to be an incredibly exciting summer of cricket,” Smith said. “Last year, Newlands sold out all five matches at the venue. With the final taking place on a Sunday, it sets up an incredible afternoon with great weather, entertainment and a lively atmosphere to crown our Season 4 champions.”

Smith also emphasized the significance of Durban’s inclusion in the playoff schedule.

“Durban will host a playoff for the first time. We’re hoping this excites the fans, especially with the two best teams playing in that Qualifier 1,” he added. “We’re also thrilled to return to Centurion and Wanderers on Thursday and Friday nights — always electric atmospheres.”

Teams Gearing Up for September 9 Auction

All six franchises are currently preparing for the SA20 player auction, scheduled for September 9, where they will finalise their 19-player squads.

A Quick Look Back

Sunrisers Eastern Cape, who won the first two editions of the tournament, will be looking to bounce back after finishing runners-up last season. They lost the 2024-25 final to MI Cape Town, who claimed their maiden title.
