Uncapped Eyman Fatima Included in Fatima Sana-led Pakistan Squad for Women’s ODI World Cup
Pakistan have announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women's ODI World Cup, with uncapped 20-year-old batter Eyman Fatima earning her maiden ODI call-up. The squad will be captained by Fatima Sana, who will be leading Pakistan for the first time in an ODI World Cup.
The same squad will also take part in a three-match home ODI series against South Africa, starting September 16 in Lahore. This series will serve as key preparation ahead of the World Cup, which begins on September 30.
Eyman Fatima, who made her T20I debut earlier this month against Ireland, replaces Gull Feroza in the main squad. She managed scores of 23 and 4 in her two outings in the T20I series. Returning to the squad is top-order batter Sadaf Shamas, while wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi also misses out. Both Feroza and Alvi have been named among the five non-traveling reserves, alongside Tuba Hassan, Umm-e-Hani, and Waheeda Akhtar.
Fatima Sana had previously led Pakistan in the ODI World Cup Qualifiers held earlier this year in Lahore. Her promotion to lead the side in the main tournament marks a significant step in her growing leadership role within the team.
Pakistan’s squad will undergo a 14-day preparatory camp starting August 29 under the guidance of head coach Muhammad Wasim. South Africa are scheduled to arrive in Lahore on September 12.
Pakistan will kick off their World Cup campaign against Bangladesh on October 2, followed by a high-profile clash against India on October 5. All of Pakistan’s group-stage matches will be played in Colombo, including the semi-final should they qualify. The second semi-final is set for Navi Mumbai, which will also host the final on November 2, unless Pakistan are one of the finalists, in which case the final will be held in Colombo.
