Netherlands Call Up 17-Year-Old Cedric de Lange for Bangladesh T20Is; Braat and Zulfiqar Return
The Netherlands have announced a revamped squad for their upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, beginning August 30, with exciting new additions and notable comebacks.
Seventeen-year-old batting prodigy Cedric de Lange has earned his maiden international call-up following standout performances at the Under-19 level, club cricket, and the recently concluded Pro Series – the Netherlands’ domestic T20 tournament. De Lange is the latest in a wave of young talent being introduced to the senior setup as the team builds towards next year’s T20 World Cup.
"It's always exciting to bring a youngster into the squad," said Netherlands captain Scott Edwards. "Cedric has been impressive all summer and he's really earned this call-up. We're looking forward to seeing what he can offer us on this tour and, hopefully, across a long career ahead of him."
Joining him in the squad are returning players Sebastiaan Braat and Sikander Zulfiqar, both making their comebacks after extended absences from the national side. Braat last featured in 2021, while Zulfiqar’s most recent T20I appearance came in 2019.
"It's great to welcome Sebastiaan Braat back into the side," Edwards added. "He's had a very strong summer at club and domestic level, and we're looking forward to having his experience back. Sikander has been a valuable member of our national team before. He’s got phenomenal ability to clear the fence late in the game, and I can't wait to see him back in orange."
The squad changes were necessitated by injuries to pace duo Ryan Klein and Fred Klaassen, while Saqib Zulfiqar withdrew from the tour due to personal reasons.
This marks the first time the Netherlands will tour Bangladesh for a T20I series, having only played five T20Is against them previously. The three matches – scheduled for August 30, September 1, and September 3 – serve as key preparation for both teams ahead of major tournaments. For the Netherlands, it's part of their build-up to the T20 World Cup in early 2026, while Bangladesh will use the series to finalise their squad for the upcoming Asia Cup beginning September 11.
The Netherlands squad will undergo a three-day training camp in Sylhet ahead of the series opener.
