Munro, Pooran Power Trinbago Knight Riders to the Top of CPL 2025 Table
Trinbago Knight Riders surged to the top of the CPL 2025 standings with a dominant seven-wicket win over Barbados Royals, thanks to a match-winning partnership between Colin Munro and Nicholas Pooran. Chasing 179 for victory, the duo’s 93-run stand paved the way for an efficient and clinical chase, completed with 13 balls to spare.
Batting first, the Royals posted 178 for 6, a total that appeared competitive at the halfway stage. However, it proved insufficient against a well-rounded batting performance from Knight Riders. Munro led from the front with a brisk 67 off 39 balls, while Pooran remained unbeaten on 65, guiding his side home with a flurry of boundaries and intelligent strike rotation.
Munro and Alex Hales gave Knight Riders a strong start with a 55-run opening stand inside the powerplay. After Hales fell for 19, Pooran walked in and wasted no time taking the attack to the bowlers. The highlight of the chase came in the 10th over when Pooran hammered Royals skipper Rovman Powell for three consecutive sixes, further tilting the momentum in Trinbago’s favour.
Although Royals managed to slow the scoring briefly between overs 10 and 14, it wasn’t enough to derail the chase. Munro was eventually run out in the 15th over, but by then the required rate had dropped to a run-a-ball. Kieron Pollard added the finishing touches with a quickfire 17* off nine balls, sealing the win in the 18th over.
Earlier, Barbados Royals’ innings was anchored by contributions from Kadeem Alleyne (41), Brandon King (29), and a late onslaught from Sherfane Rutherford, who top-scored with 45 off just 22 balls. The Royals recovered from an early loss of Quinton de Kock and reached 178, with 73 of those runs coming in the final six overs. Powell also played a late cameo, smashing 23 off one over from Ali Khan.
Despite the late surge, Royals’ total proved inadequate. Andre Russell was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 37, while Mohammad Amir provided control through the middle overs with figures of 2 for 35.
With this victory, the Knight Riders climbed to the top of the CPL table, tied on eight points with St Lucia Kings but ahead on net run-rate. Meanwhile, the struggling Barbados Royals remained winless, rooted at the bottom with three defeats and one no-result in their four matches so far.
