Bangladesh Opt to Bowl in Series Opener as Saif Hassan Returns After Two-Year Hiatus

Bangladesh captain Litton Das won the toss and elected to bowl first in the opening T20I of the three-match series against the Netherlands at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. The match marks the beginning of a crucial phase for Bangladesh as they gear up for the upcoming Asia Cup.

The home side has made several changes from the team that featured in their last T20I against Pakistan. Parvez Hossain Emon, Towhid Hridoy, Rishad Hossain, and Mustafizur Rahman, all of whom were rested for the third T20I in July, have returned to the playing XI. Notably, Saif Hassan also makes a comeback, featuring in a T20I for the first time since October 2023.

With Taskin Ahmed and Mohammad Saifuddin proving effective in the middle overs in recent matches, Bangladesh will be hoping their bowling unit can continue to deliver on home soil. Taskin, in particular, will be a key weapon with the new ball.

The Netherlands, meanwhile, have made five changes to the side that last played against Italy. Opening batter Vikramjit Singh and middle-order batter Teja Nidamanuru return, strengthening the Dutch batting order. In the spin department, Tim Pringle, Shariz Ahmad, and Daniel Doram have all been included, suggesting the visitors are anticipating a spin-friendly surface.

This series presents a valuable opportunity for the Netherlands to acclimatize to subcontinental conditions, especially with the T20 World Cup set to be held in India and Sri Lanka in 2026. The Dutch team last toured Bangladesh during the 2014 T20 World Cup.
