Asia Cup 2025: Match Start Times Delayed Due to Extreme UAE Heat

In response to the sweltering late-summer temperatures in the UAE, the start times for 18 out of the 19 matches in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 have been pushed back by 30 minutes. Matches will now begin at 6:30pm local time (8:00pm IST) instead of the originally scheduled 6:00pm starts.

The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the change in a statement issued on its official website, citing player welfare and more favorable playing conditions under lights.

“The start time for 18 out of the 19 DP World Asia Cup 2025 matches has been updated. These matches will now begin at 6:30pm local time (Gulf Standard Time),” the ECB stated.

The only exception is the UAE vs Oman clash on Monday, September 15, which remains a day game, scheduled to begin at 4:00pm local time at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Tournament Details

This edition of the Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format and is scheduled from September 9 to 28, with matches taking place across Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The high-profile India vs Pakistan match will be held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 14. India, although not engaging in bilateral series with Pakistan, will continue to face them in multi-nation tournaments like the Asia Cup.

India begin their campaign on September 10 against hosts UAE in Dubai, and conclude the group stage against Oman in Abu Dhabi on September 19.

Group Breakdown:

  • Group A: India, Pakistan, UAE, Oman

  • Group B: Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Hong Kong

Related Developments:

  • Bangladesh have left out Mehidy Hasan Miraz from their squad.

  • Afghanistan have included young spinner Ghazanfar.

  • Oman have selected four uncapped players.

  • Sri Lanka's campaign has been bolstered by the return of Wanindu Hasaranga, who has been declared fit.

With player safety a top priority, the revised timings aim to minimize the impact of extreme heat and ensure better playing conditions for athletes and spectators alike.
