Knight Riders Dominate Warriors to Cement CPL Top Spot
Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) extended their winning streak to four matches with a commanding six-wicket win over Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, consolidating their position at the top of the points table.
Bowling first after winning the toss, TKR’s bowlers, led by left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein (3 for 27), dismantled the Warriors’ top order early, reducing them to 37 for 3 in the powerplay. Hosein struck again to remove Hassan Khan and Shimron Hetmyer in the ninth over, leaving the Warriors reeling at 70 for 5.
Despite a steady 39 off 29 balls from Shai Hope, the Warriors failed to recover fully. Late cameos from Dwaine Pretorius (21) and Quentin Sampson, who struck three sixes, lifted them to a competitive total of 163 for 9.
TKR’s chase was headlined by a blistering opening partnership between Alex Hales and Colin Munro, who added over 100 runs in just nine overs. Munro reached his half-century in 25 balls while Hales matched him shortly after in 26, frequently clearing the ropes in the process.
Veteran spinner Imran Tahir briefly reignited the contest with a stunning triple-wicket over, removing Munro (52), Nicholas Pooran, and Keacy Carty in the space of six balls. However, missed chances in the field proved costly for the Warriors, including dropped catches of both Munro and Hales and a botched run-out opportunity.
Hales, who crossed the 14,000-run mark in T20 cricket during his innings of 74, ensured the chase stayed on track. With the required run rate under control, Andre Russell sealed the win with three towering sixes, helping TKR reach the target with 16 balls to spare.
The Knight Riders now sit firmly atop the CPL 2025 standings, while the Amazon Warriors remain in fourth place with just four points, albeit with games in hand.
