Albert-Lynn Power Hampshire to Finals Day After Dominant Win Over Durham

Hampshire Hawks stormed into Finals Day for a record 11th time after overpowering Durham by 26 runs in a high-scoring Vitality Blast quarter-final clash at the Banks Homes Riverside.

Batting first after being put in by Durham skipper Alex Lees, Hampshire posted an imposing 221 for 8 — a total built on explosive half-centuries from Toby Albert (68), Chris Lynn (51), and Hilton Cartwright (61). Despite a spirited effort with the bat from Ollie Robinson, who remained unbeaten on 60, Durham’s chase fell short as they closed on 195 for 6.

Hampshire’s innings was launched in thrilling fashion as openers Albert and Lynn raced to 112 in just 8 overs, dominating the powerplay with clean hitting and aggressive intent. Lynn struck a quickfire 51 before falling to Nathan Sowter, but Albert continued to find the boundary with ease before holing out for a commanding 68.

Hilton Cartwright then took the reins with a blistering 61 off 31 balls, smashing four fours and four sixes, including a towering maximum to bring up his fifty. Skipper James Vince added 27, and despite a flurry of wickets in the final overs — including two run outs — the Hawks reached a commanding total.

Durham’s response faltered early as Graham Clark was dismissed cheaply, and although David Bedingham (22), Alex Lees (26), and Neesham (quick 24) showed intent, none could anchor the innings. A tight bowling display from Hampshire, led by Benny Howell (2 wickets) and Chris Wood, consistently took key scalps to dent Durham’s momentum.

Robinson offered late resistance with a well-compiled 60 off 29 balls, but the required rate had spiraled beyond reach. His efforts were not enough to overturn the early damage, and Hampshire closed out a comfortable win to punch their ticket to Finals Day.

With a powerful top-order performance and a composed bowling unit, Hampshire once again showcased their T20 pedigree — and they’ll now head into Finals Day with confidence and momentum firmly on their side.
