Livingstone Stars as Lancashire Secure Finals Day Spot in Vitality Blast

Lancashire Lightning have stormed into the Vitality Blast Finals Day for a record-extending 10th time, clinching a dramatic three-wicket win over Kent Spitfires in their quarter-final clash at Emirates Old Trafford.

In front of a lively 12,000-strong crowd, Liam Livingstone delivered a match-winning all-round performance, taking 2 for 21 with the ball and then blasting an unbeaten 85 off just 45 balls – an innings laced with seven towering sixes – to guide Lancashire past Kent’s total of 153 with nine balls to spare.

The win sets up a semi-final date next Saturday against either Somerset or Birmingham Bears as Lancashire chase their second Blast title, a decade after lifting their first in 2015.

Wood Strikes Early as Kent Falter

Lancashire got off to a dream start when England pacer Luke Wood removed Tawanda Muyeye with the very first ball of the match. Wood was superb throughout, finishing with figures of 3 for 29, including two wickets in the final over to wrap up Kent’s innings.

Despite some promising cameos from Joe Denly (28), Joey Evison (27), and Grant Stewart (25), Kent’s innings never gained full momentum. They lost wickets at regular intervals, with no batter managing to cross 30. Livingstone chipped in with a key spell of spin, removing Sam Billings and Evison to further dent the visitors’ progress.

Kent ultimately scrambled to 153 all out in their 20 overs — a total that looked below par on a good batting surface.

Early Trouble for Lancashire

The chase began nervously for the hosts, with Kent striking twice early to leave Lancashire reeling at 5 for 2. Grant Stewart and Fred Klaassen dismissed Phil Salt and Luke Wells respectively, Klaassen later claiming impressive figures of 3 for 14.

Livingstone briefly caused concern when he was struck on the neck attempting a pull shot off Nathan Gilchrist and required a concussion check. But he soon found his rhythm, taking the attack to Kent’s bowlers with a flurry of boundaries and sixes.

A Lone Hero

With wickets falling around him — including captain Keaton Jennings (31 for 3), Ashton Turner (84 for 4), and Michael Jones (118 for 6) — Livingstone stood tall, launching former Lancashire teammate Matt Parkinson for three sixes in an over to reach his first half-century of this year’s tournament in just 25 balls.

Even as Kent chipped away with the ball, they couldn’t dislodge the dangerous Livingstone, whose sheer power and composure under pressure proved decisive.

The Final Push

Despite a few late wickets, Lancashire remained ahead of the rate. Livingstone fittingly sealed the win with a flourish, smashing one last six to end the game with 85 not out – a captain’s innings in all but name.

With the win, Lancashire now move on to Finals Day at Edgbaston, aiming to lift the Vitality Blast trophy for the second time. For Kent, it was a case of missed opportunities and a total that proved too modest against one of the tournament's most dangerous match-winners.
