Sri Lanka Recall Prabodhani, Dulani for Women’s ODI World Cup 2026
Sri Lanka have named their 15-member squad for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup, set to be held across India and Sri Lanka from September 30, with veteran seamer Udeshika Prabodhani making a return after nearly a year out due to injury. The squad will be led by star batter Chamari Athapaththu.
Also recalled is batter Imesha Dulani, who returns to the national setup after being dropped for the tri-series against India and South Africa earlier this year. Teenagers Rashmika Sewwandi and Manudi Nanayakkara, along with Hansima Karunaratne and spinner Inoshi Fernando, have missed out on selection.
Prabodhani's Comeback to Boost Pace Attack
Prabodhani, 39, last featured in an ODI during Sri Lanka's tour of Ireland in August 2024 and was sidelined since the Women’s T20 World Cup last October due to a persistent hamstring injury. Her return adds crucial experience to Sri Lanka’s pace attack, which also includes Achini Kulasuriya (35) and Malki Madara (24).
Dulani Returns, Nanayakkara Misses Out
Dulani, 23, takes the place of 17-year-old Nanayakkara and is likely to be used as a back-up top-order batter. The core batting lineup remains stable, anchored by Athapaththu, and includes Hasini Perera, Vishmi Gunaratne, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Kavisha Dilhari, Nilakshi de Silva, and Anushka Sanjeewani, who will take on wicketkeeping duties.
Spin Remains Key Despite Inoshi’s Omission
Even without Inoshi Fernando, Sri Lanka possess a well-rounded spin unit led by Inoka Ranaweera, Dewmi Vihanga, and Sugandika Kumari, supported by the spin-bowling allrounders Athapaththu and Dilhari.
Tournament Schedule
Sri Lanka begin their World Cup campaign on September 30 against hosts India in Guwahati, before playing their next four matches in Colombo. They will then travel to Navi Mumbai to face Bangladesh, and return home for a final league clash against Pakistan.
