Bangladesh Opt to Bowl First in Asia Cup Opener Against Hong Kong

Bangladesh captain Litton Das won the toss and elected to bowl first against Hong Kong in their Asia Cup 2025 opener at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The decision, Litton explained, was driven by uncertainty over the pitch conditions, which are unfamiliar to the Bangladeshi side.

Bangladesh are fielding a balanced XI comprising three seamers, two spinners, and six specialist batters. The team includes Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and young pacer Tanzim Hasan as the seam options, while Mahedi Hasan and Rishad Hossain provide spin support. This marks a crucial match for Bangladesh, who are yet to register a T20I win in Abu Dhabi.

Despite losing the toss, Hong Kong skipper Yasim Murtaza expressed satisfaction, saying he preferred to bat first. He acknowledged mistakes made by his batters in their previous outing against Afghanistan but showed confidence in his unchanged playing XI. “The same team gets another chance to perform,” Murtaza said, backing his side to improve.

The pitch in Abu Dhabi is expected to be dry with visible cracks, but still conducive to batting. A shorter boundary on one side could make high scores achievable, setting the stage for an entertaining contest.

Interestingly, one losing streak is guaranteed to end tonight. Bangladesh have never won a T20I in Abu Dhabi, while Hong Kong are still searching for their first-ever Asia Cup victory.
