Hasaranga Returns as Sri Lanka Opt to Bowl Against Bangladesh in High-Stakes Clash

Sri Lanka received a major boost ahead of their crucial encounter against Bangladesh as star allrounder Wanindu Hasaranga returned to the playing XI after recovering from a hamstring injury. The leg-spinner had missed Sri Lanka’s recent tour of Zimbabwe but is now fit and ready to play a key role in this high-stakes contest.

Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka won the toss and opted to bowl first on a fresh pitch in Abu Dhabi. Speaking at the toss, Asalanka confirmed Hasaranga's return, highlighting the allrounder’s importance to the side. Hasaranga is the only specialist attacking spinner in the XI, with Maheesh Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage left out.

The Sri Lankan side features a balanced mix of pace and spin, fielding three specialist fast bowlers in Dushmantha Chameera, Matheesha Pathirana, and Nuwan Thushara. Allrounders Dasun Shanaka and Kamindu Mendis add depth with both bat and ball.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, made one change to the side that beat Hong Kong, bringing in Shoriful Islam for Taskin Ahmed. With Mustafizur Rahman also in the lineup, Bangladesh have opted for two left-arm seamers, along with the right-arm swing of Tanzim Hasan Sakib. Spin duties will be shared by allrounders Mahedi Hasan and Rishad Hossain.
