Naveen Ul Haq Ruled Out of Asia Cup 2025 Due to Shoulder Injury
Afghanistan have suffered a major blow ahead of their remaining matches in the T20 Asia Cup 2025, with fast bowler Naveen Ul Haq officially ruled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed the development on Monday, stating that the 25-year-old seamer has not been cleared by the medical team and will return home to continue his rehabilitation and treatment.
Naveen, who was named in Afghanistan’s 15-member squad for the Asia Cup, did not feature in the team’s opening game due to ongoing fitness concerns. Following further assessment, the ACB has now decided to withdraw him from the tournament altogether.
“The ACB wishes Naveen Ul Haq a speedy recovery and extends its best wishes to Abdullah Ahmadzai for the matches ahead,” the board said in its official statement.
Abdullah Ahmadzai Called Up
In Naveen’s absence, Abdullah Ahmadzai — who was part of the reserves and recently made his international debut — has been promoted to the main squad for the remainder of the tournament. The young pacer is expected to add depth to Afghanistan’s bowling attack as they aim for a place in the Super Four.
The Asia Cup setback adds to a string of recent injury concerns for Afghanistan, who rely heavily on their pace battery, especially in high-stakes T20 contests.
