Smriti Mandhana Reclaims No.1 Spot in ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings
India’s star opener and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has reclaimed the No. 1 position in the ICC Women’s ODI batting rankings following her impressive half-century against Australia in the first ODI on Sunday.
Mandhana scored a fluent 58 off 63 balls, helping India post a competitive total of 281 in the series opener in New Chandigarh. Despite India’s eight-wicket loss, her performance was enough to propel her past England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt to the top of the rankings — a position Mandhana now holds for the fourth time in her career.
She first achieved the top ranking in January 2019 and most recently held it in July 2025 before being overtaken by Sciver-Brunt. Mandhana’s return to the summit reaffirms her consistency and dominance in the 50-over format.
Australia’s Beth Mooney also made significant gains, rising three spots to fifth after contributing a brisk knock in the same match. Youngsters Annabel Sutherland and Phoebe Litchfield, both of whom struck half-centuries during Australia’s successful chase, are now jointly ranked 25th.
India’s other top-ranked batters include skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (12th) and Jemimah Rodrigues (15th), both maintaining their places within the top 20.
In the bowling charts, Australia’s Kim Garth and Alana King achieved career-best rankings of fourth and fifth respectively, following their disciplined efforts with the ball. India’s Sneh Rana, who returned figures of 1 for 51, climbed five spots to reach 16th place.
England’s Sophie Ecclestone remains the top-ranked ODI bowler, while India’s Deepti Sharma continues to feature prominently at No. 7 — the only Indian in the top 10 of the bowling rankings.
The second ODI of the three-match series between India and Australia will be played on Wednesday, with the hosts looking to level the series.
