Rodrigues Ruled Out of Australia ODIs with Viral Fever; Hasabnis Named Replacement

India batter Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of the remaining two ODIs in the ongoing home series against Australia due to a viral fever, the BCCI confirmed on Wednesday. The board also announced that Tejal Hasabnis has been added to the squad as Rodrigues’ replacement.

The announcement came shortly before the toss for the second ODI in New Chandigarh, where Arundhati Reddy, the fast-bowling allrounder, was brought into the playing XI in Rodrigues' absence.

Rodrigues, a key part of India’s middle order, featured in the first ODI on Sunday, scoring 18 runs off 26 balls from the No. 5 position in a match India eventually lost by eight wickets. The BCCI said its medical team is monitoring her condition closely.

Hasabnis, 28, is a middle-order batter who made her ODI debut in October 2024 against New Zealand in Ahmedabad. Though relatively new to the international circuit, she has shown promise, scoring 140 runs in six innings at an average of 46.66 and a strike rate of 78.65, with a personal best of 53 not out.

India will be hopeful of Rodrigues' full recovery ahead of the upcoming ODI World Cup, which begins on September 30. The tournament will kick off with co-hosts India and Sri Lanka facing off in Guwahati.
