Chris Lynn Commits to Full BBL Season with Adelaide Strikers

Big Bash League (BBL) all-time leading run-scorer Chris Lynn has re-signed with the Adelaide Strikers for a fourth season and will be available for the entire BBL 15 campaign, marking the first time the veteran will complete a full season with the club.

Lynn, 35, returns to the Strikers after a strong finish to the T20 Blast season in the UK, where he smashed a remarkable 108 off 51 balls* for Hampshire in the semi-final, hitting 11 sixes. Though he couldn’t replicate that performance in the final, his explosive form has left the Strikers excited for what's to come.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back to Adelaide Oval and helping the team go deep into finals this year,” Lynn said. “We’ve got an exciting squad this season and I can’t wait to see what we can produce when we take to the field.”

Lynn is just 45 runs shy of becoming the first player in BBL history to score 4000 career runs, and with a full season ahead, he is well poised to reach that milestone early in the tournament.

Full Season Availability a Boost for Strikers

In his first two seasons with Adelaide, Lynn had only signed short-term deals, leaving the tournament early to play in the ILT20 in the UAE. Last season, a hamstring injury limited him to just seven games. However, the rescheduling of the ILT20 to early December has opened up availability for players like Lynn to participate in the BBL in full.

Strikers head coach Tim Paine said Lynn’s return was a top priority during the off-season.

“We’re thrilled to have Chris returning to the Strikers as we strive for a deep finals campaign,” Paine said. “While his batting exploits speak for themselves, his experience and leadership are equally invaluable to our emerging players.”

Strengthening the Squad

Lynn will form a potent top order alongside Matt Short, one of Australia’s leading white-ball batters. There is also potential for Alex Carey to rejoin the squad following the conclusion of the Ashes, with the Strikers' final four matches falling after the last Test in Sydney.

Former captain Travis Head, who didn’t play a single BBL game last season, currently remains unsigned, though there is speculation he could still be picked up under the BBL marquee player rule.

The Strikers have also refreshed their roster with younger signings including Jason Sangha and Mackenzie Harvey, after the departures of Jake Weatherald (Hobart Hurricanes) and Brendan Doggett (Melbourne Renegades).

Overton, Hasan Ali and Luke Wood Confirmed as Overseas Picks

Strikers will also benefit from the availability of overseas pacer Jamie Overton, who has taken an indefinite break from red-ball cricket, ruling him out of the Ashes but making him fully available for the BBL season.

Overton joins fellow overseas players Hasan Ali and Luke Wood, strengthening the bowling unit for the upcoming campaign.
