Grace Harris Ruled Out of ODI World Cup with Calf Strain, Heather Graham Named Replacement

Australia have suffered a blow ahead of the upcoming ICC Women's ODI World Cup, with hard-hitting batter Grace Harris ruled out due to a calf strain. Allrounder Heather Graham has been called up as her replacement.

Harris sustained the injury while fielding during the final ODI of the recently concluded three-match series against India in Delhi on Saturday. The match was her only appearance in the series, stepping in for Annabel Sutherland, who was sidelined with hip soreness.

Although Harris was not expected to feature in Australia’s starting XI, her explosive batting in the lower order made her a valuable squad member. Her absence comes at a time when Australia are already managing several injury concerns within the team.

Sutherland’s hip issue is the most recent addition to a growing list. Top-order batter Phoebe Litchfield missed the last two ODIs against India due to a quad strain, and pace bowler Darcie Brown is recovering from back spasms. Spinner Sophie Molineux remains unavailable as she continues her rehabilitation from a major knee injury. Georgia Wareham has only recently returned from a groin and adductor strain, while captain Alyssa Healy is regaining form after a serious foot injury. Both Wareham and Healy completed all three matches in the India series.

In Harris’s place, 28-year-old Heather Graham returns to the national setup. Graham has featured in just one ODI for Australia back in 2019 but has been a regular in training squads. Her most recent international appearance came in a T20I in September last year.

Australia's World Cup campaign begins amid uncertainty over the fitness of key players, but Graham’s inclusion adds depth and versatility to the squad as they aim to defend their title.
