Prasidh Krishna Suffers Concussion, Replaced by Yash Thakur in India A vs Australia A Match
India fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has been substituted out of the ongoing second unofficial Test between India A and Australia A in Lucknow after suffering a blow to the head while batting. Yash Thakur has been brought in as a concussion substitute for the remainder of the match.
The incident occurred on Day 2 of the match when Prasidh was struck on the helmet by a short delivery from Australian pacer Henry Thornton in the 39th over of India A’s innings. Although Prasidh continued to bat after undergoing the mandatory on-field concussion assessment, he left the field after the 42nd over and did not return.
Mohammed Siraj came in to bat in his place. When India A lost their eighth wicket, Gurnoor Brar was sent in at No. 11. Following the dismissal of B Sai Sudharsan, Yash Thakur came in as a replacement for Prasidh, officially completing the concussion substitution.
India A were bowled out for 194 in response to Australia A's 420 in the first innings. At stumps on Day 2, the visitors were 16 for 3 in their second innings, with India A staging a spirited comeback with the ball.
Prasidh's Test Squad Prospects in Doubt
The extent of Prasidh's injury remains unclear, but it comes at a crucial time, as India’s selectors are scheduled to meet later today to pick the Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against West Indies, starting October 2.
Prasidh is believed to be in contention for a spot in the Test squad alongside Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep, who all featured prominently during India’s recent five-Test series in England. In that series, Prasidh claimed 14 wickets in three matches at an average of 37.07.
The current series against Australia A marks Prasidh's first competitive appearance since the England tour ended in early August. However, he has struggled to make an impact, going wicketless in the first match (0 for 90 in 21 overs) and managing 1 for 76 in 17 overs in the first innings of the second match before the injury.
The timing of the injury could affect his immediate future in the Indian Test setup, depending on his recovery and medical evaluation.
