ILT20 Set to Expand into Saudi Arabia Through Groundbreaking Partnership
The International League T20 (ILT20) is set to expand its reach across the Gulf region, with future matches potentially taking place in Saudi Arabia. This development comes after the league entered into a strategic partnership with the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation (SACF), which has now officially sanctioned the ILT20 as a recognized men’s and women’s competition in the Kingdom.
While no specific dates have been confirmed for when ILT20 matches will debut in Saudi Arabia, the agreement marks a major step in cricket’s growth in the region. As part of the collaboration, Saudi Arabia will also become an integral part of the player ecosystem, beginning with this year’s ILT20 auction on October 1, where franchises will be required to sign at least one Saudi player.
"We are very proud to announce our partnership with the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation," said ILT20 chairman Khalid Al Zarooni. "Saudi Arabia is a key part of the Gulf region, and its commitment to developing cricket is inspiring. This partnership is built on our shared vision of growing the game beyond borders. The DP World ILT20 will create opportunities for players and, hopefully, bring world-class cricket closer to the fans."
The partnership also aims to promote grassroots development and talent identification. A development tournament is scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia next year, further integrating the Kingdom into the regional cricketing landscape.
Chairman of the SACF, HRH Prince Saud Bin Mishal Al-Saud, emphasized the broader significance of the collaboration: "This reflects our commitment to developing cricket in the country and providing our players with opportunities to grow and succeed on an international stage. With Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 placing strong emphasis on sport and community engagement, we believe this partnership will inspire more young men and women to take up cricket."
The ILT20’s fourth season is set to kick off on December 2, 2025, and will run through January 4, 2026. Matches will be held across the UAE’s cricketing hubs—Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah—and will feature six franchises competing in 34 matches.
This expansion signals a promising new chapter for cricket in the Gulf, with the sport poised to gain new audiences and fresh talent across borders.
