India U19 Thrash Australia U19 by an Innings in Brisbane to Take 1–0 Lead in Youth Test Series
India Under-19 delivered a dominant all-round performance to crush Australia Under-19 by an innings and 58 runs in the first Youth Test at Allan Border Field, Brisbane. The visitors, powered by centuries from Vedant Trivedi and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, along with a match-winning eight-wicket haul from pacer D Deepesh, now lead the two-match series 1–0.
Australia U19s, opting to bat first, were bundled out for 243 in their first innings. No. 3 batter Steven Hogan stood tall with a gritty 92 off 246 deliveries, but found little support from the rest of the line-up. Deepesh ran through the lower order to return figures of 5 for 45, while left-arm pacer Kishan Kumar chipped in with 3 for 48.
India’s response was emphatic. Suryavanshi got the innings off to a flying start with a blistering 86-ball 113, laced with nine fours and eight sixes. He was followed by Trivedi, who played a more measured knock of 140, anchoring the innings with 19 boundaries. Contributions down the order, including a quickfire 49 from allrounder Khilan Patel, helped India post a commanding 428, securing a 185-run first-innings lead.
Australia’s second innings saw a repeat of their earlier struggles. Kishan Kumar and Deepesh dismantled the top order, reducing the hosts to 24 for 3. Khilan Patel, who also impressed with the bat, turned destroyer with the ball, claiming 3 for 19 to wipe out the middle order. Despite a late fightback from Aryan Sharma, who scored a resilient 43 at No. 9, Australia were bowled out for 127. Deepesh wrapped up the innings with two more scalps to finish with match figures of 8 for 61.
It was a clinical effort from the Indian colts, who outplayed their opponents in all departments to register a resounding win.
The second and final Youth Test will also be played in Brisbane, starting October 7.
