Sears, Sodhi, Neesham Return as New Zealand Opt to Bowl in Rain-Shortened T20I Against Australia

New Zealand have won the toss and elected to bowl first in the second T20I against Australia at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, in a rain-affected encounter reduced to 18 overs per side.

After persistent showers throughout the day threatened a washout, the weather finally cleared, allowing play to commence an hour later than scheduled. As per updated ICC playing conditions for shortened T20Is, the powerplay has been adjusted to 5.2 overs per innings.

The hosts, trailing 0-1 in the three-match series, made three changes to the side that lost the first match. Fast bowler Ben Sears returns from a side injury, replacing Kyle Jamieson, while legspinner Ish Sodhi comes in for Zak Foulkes, marking a significant milestone as he becomes New Zealand’s most capped men’s T20I player. Jimmy Neesham also returns to the XI, slotting in at No. 7 in place of Bevon Jacobs.

Australia, meanwhile, have made just one change to their winning XI from the first T20I. Sean Abbott replaces Ben Dwarshuis, who has been rested. Despite preferring to bowl, the visitors will bat first after losing the toss, with the pitch having been under covers for most of the day.

Playing XIs:

New Zealand:
Tim Seifert (wk), Devon Conway, Tim Robinson, Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell (capt), Jimmy Neesham, Matt Henry, Ben Sears, Ish Sodhi, Jacob Duffy

Australia:
