Towhid Hridoy Doubtful for 2nd T20I Against Afghanistan Due to Illness
Bangladesh batter Towhid Hridoy is in doubt for the second T20I against Afghanistan after being struck down by a viral fever. Team management has confirmed that a decision on his availability will be taken closer to match time.
A Bangladesh team official told Cricbuzz on Friday that Hridoy is currently on antibiotics and under close medical observation. Although his condition has improved slightly over the past two days, his participation in the game remains uncertain.
“Not sure about the game,” the official said. “He is having antibiotics and still unwell but better than what he was two days back or yesterday. So we will make a call on Hridoy after reaching the ground. He is being observed by our physio in consultation with Debashish [Chowdhury, BCB's medical head].”
Dr. Debashish Chowdhury, the BCB's chief physician, echoed the update, noting that while Hridoy's fever may have subsided, the lingering weakness could still keep him out of the playing XI.
“I have spoken with them and learnt that he is better than before,” Debashish said. “But at the same time, you have to understand that even if the fever is gone, weakness can remain — and if that is the case, he might not make it for the second game.”
The second T20I is set to be played in Sharjah on October 3. Hridoy’s potential absence could force Bangladesh to shuffle their middle order, with team management likely to consider alternative combinations if he is deemed unfit.
Bangladesh currently leads the series 1-0 after winning the opening match.
