West Indies Hand Maiden ODI Call-Up to Ackeem Auguste for Bangladesh Tour
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced its squads for the upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh, with 22-year-old Ackeem Auguste earning a maiden ODI call-up. The talented left-handed batter replaces Evin Lewis, who has been ruled out due to a wrist injury.
Auguste’s call-up marks another milestone in his rapid rise through the West Indies cricket system. A graduate of the CWI Academy and former youth captain, he recently impressed with a quickfire half-century in the CPL 2025 for the Guyana Amazon Warriors, further reinforcing his potential. Head coach Daren Sammy described Auguste as "a player for the future" and hailed his progression from the Under-15 level to the senior squad.
Alongside Auguste, Khary Pierre returns to the ODI setup as a third spin option, joining Gudakesh Motie and allrounder Roston Chase. Alick Athanaze, who last featured in an ODI in December 2024, also makes a return.
Meanwhile, fast bowlers Shamar Joseph and Gudakesh Motie, who missed the recent Test series in India due to workload management and injury, respectively, are back in both the ODI and T20I squads. Joseph’s return strengthens the pace attack, with Alzarri Joseph still sidelined.
The white-ball tour begins with a three-match ODI series in Dhaka on October 18, 21, and 23, followed by three T20Is in Chattogram on October 27, 29, and 31.
Rising left-arm pacer Ramon Simmonds and wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo have been added to the T20I squad. Simmonds has enjoyed a breakout year, including a 13-wicket CPL 2025 campaign and a four-wicket haul against Nepal in just his second T20I. Jangoo, who will serve as back-up to captain Shai Hope, is among several players gaining international exposure ahead of next year's T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
To further prepare for subcontinent conditions, Motie, Keacy Carty, Sherfane Rutherford, Auguste, and Jangoo will undergo a pre-tour training camp at the Chennai Super Kings Academy in India. CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe emphasized the importance of acclimatisation and skill development in similar conditions ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
“This is not just about Bangladesh,” Bascombe said. “It’s about laying the groundwork for success at the World Cup. Training in India will give these players critical experience in subcontinental conditions.”
