Australia Elect to Bowl Against Unchanged India in Key World Cup Clash

Australia won the toss and opted to field first against India in a much-anticipated Women’s World Cup league encounter in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. Captain Alyssa Healy cited evening dew as a key factor in the decision to chase under lights.

Australia made one change to their playing XI, bringing in left-arm spin-bowling allrounder Sophie Molineux in place of legspinner Georgia Wareham. Molineux, who missed the previous match against Pakistan, returns to bolster the spin attack.

India, meanwhile, have stuck with the same XI that suffered a narrow defeat to South Africa at the same venue two nights ago. Their decision to go in with just five frontline bowlers has drawn scrutiny, especially after failing to defend a 251-run total in their last outing.

Despite the criticism, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur remained positive, emphasizing the team's focus and learnings from the loss.

“In a tournament like this, these things happen,” said Harmanpreet. “We sat together, took a lot of positives from that game. We were in it for 95 overs. The focus now is entirely on today – it's an important game.”

Australia come into the clash with two wins and one shared point from three games. Their previous match against Pakistan was a gritty affair, where they were reduced to 78 for 7 before Beth Mooney’s century helped steer them to a commanding victory.

Reflecting on that match, Healy stressed the importance of adaptability in tournament cricket:

“At some point during the World Cups, you just need to get what needs to be done and get the win. When you come up against a really good opposition like India, you need to put everything together.”

The two teams are familiar foes, having recently played a three-match ODI series in India late last month. Australia claimed the series 2-1, with the final match producing nearly 800 runs. India's Smriti Mandhana was a standout performer, smashing the second-fastest century in women’s ODI history.
