India Complete 2-0 Series Sweep Over West Indies in Shubman Gill’s First Series Win as Captain

India wrapped up a commanding 2-0 Test series victory over the West Indies with a seven-wicket win on the final day of the second Test at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. Under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, who secured his first series win as Test skipper, India chased down the 121-run target in just over an hour on the fifth morning.

Resuming at 66 for 1, India lost two quick wickets—B Sai Sudharsan and Gill himself—but KL Rahul ensured there were no further hiccups. The experienced batter anchored the innings with an unbeaten 58, guiding India home and finishing as the second-highest run-scorer of the series with 192 runs, behind Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 219.

India had earlier dominated the match with a mammoth first-innings score of 518 for 5 declared, powered by centuries from Jaiswal (175) and Gill (129), and a solid 87 from Sudharsan. In reply, West Indies were bowled out for 248, with Kuldeep Yadav starring with figures of 5 for 82. Forced to follow on, the visitors put up a stronger fight in their second innings, posting 390 thanks to centuries from John Campbell (115) and Shai Hope (103), along with a resilient 50* from Justin Greaves.

Kuldeep continued his fine form with another three wickets in the second innings, ending the series with 12 wickets to emerge as the top wicket-taker. Jasprit Bumrah also made key contributions with 3 for 44.

Despite the clean sweep, India remain third on the World Test Championship (WTC) points table, with a percentage of 61.9%.

The win also marked India’s tenth consecutive Test victory over the West Indies, and their 122nd Test win overall—surpassing South Africa to become the third most successful team in Test history.

After the match, captain Shubman Gill handed the series trophy to debutants N Jagadeesan and Nitish Kumar Reddy, a symbolic gesture that highlighted the team’s focus on building for the future.
