India Fined for Slow Over Rate in Women’s World Cup Defeat to Australia

India’s women’s team has been fined for maintaining a slow over rate during their high-scoring defeat to Australia in the ongoing ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. The match took place on October 12 in Visakhapatnam, where Australia successfully chased down a target of 330 with three wickets in hand and six balls to spare.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s side was found to be one over short of the required rate after taking into account all time allowances. As per the ICC Code of Conduct, teams are penalised 5% of their match fees for each over they fall short of completing within the stipulated time.

There was no need for a formal hearing, as Harmanpreet accepted the charge and the sanction proposed by the on-field match officials. Consequently, the Indian team was fined 5% of their match fees.

India had started their World Cup campaign strongly, securing victories in their first two league-stage matches. However, back-to-back losses against South Africa and Australia have now placed them fourth on the points table. They will look to bounce back in their upcoming clash against England, scheduled for Sunday in Indore.
