Ibrahim Zadran Fined for Code of Conduct Breach After Dismissal in 3rd ODI Against Bangladesh
Afghanistan batter Ibrahim Zadran has been fined 15% of his match fee and received one demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the third ODI against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi on October 14.
The incident took place during the 37th over of Afghanistan’s innings when Zadran, visibly frustrated after being dismissed for 95 off 111 balls, struck a piece of equipment near the dressing room with his bat. This marked his second consecutive score of 95, having been dismissed for the same score in the second ODI.
Zadran was found to have violated Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match."
The batter accepted the charge and sanction proposed by match referee Graeme Labrooy, which meant there was no need for a formal hearing. This marks Zadran's first offence within a 24-month period.
According to ICC regulations, accumulating four or more demerit points within two years leads to suspension points, which can result in a ban—two suspension points translate to a ban from one Test match or two limited-overs internationals, whichever comes first.
Despite the frustration, Zadran’s innings was pivotal in Afghanistan’s clean sweep of the ODI series (3-0) against Bangladesh. His consistent performances earned him praise throughout the series, underscoring his value at the top of the order.
