Tasmania Extend Unbeaten Run with Commanding Win Over Western Australia in One-Day Cup
Tasmania have continued their perfect start to the 2025-26 One-Day Cup season with a confident four-wicket win over Western Australia at Bellerive Oval, led by a composed innings from Jordan Silk.
Chasing a revised target of 252 under the DLS method after rain shortened the match to 44 overs per side, Tasmania reached the mark in just 38 overs, finishing on 252 for 6 with six wickets down and six overs to spare.
Silk was the standout performer, scoring 81 off 75 balls — an innings that included nine boundaries and a six — and also marked his 2000th run in domestic one-day cricket. He shared a match-defining 104-run partnership for the fifth wicket with veteran Matthew Wade, who remained unbeaten on 46 off 43 deliveries.
Earlier in the day, WA posted 248 for 9 after being sent in to bat, with opener Sam Fanning top-scoring with a steady 66 from 91 balls. He was well supported by 21-year-old debutant Teague Wyllie, who played a brisk knock of 56 from 51 balls, striking four fours and a six.
Despite a solid 50-run opening stand between Fanning and Joel Curtis, WA struggled to maintain momentum after early wickets. Key middle-order players including Cameron Bancroft and Sam Whiteman got starts but couldn’t convert. When Fanning was dismissed in the 29th over, the visitors were precariously placed at 147 for 4.
Tasmanian seamer Brad Hope was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 for 40 from his seven overs, including the crucial wicket of Wyllie.
Tasmania’s run chase started aggressively, with opener Caleb Jewell smashing 48 off 37 balls, supported by Ben McDermott who added 42 from 49 deliveries. Their top-order contributions ensured the home side stayed ahead of the required rate despite a few stumbles in the middle overs.
Mahli Beardman was the only multiple wicket-taker for WA, but the visitors' bowling attack overall struggled to contain Tasmania’s experienced batting lineup.
With this win, Tasmania have now secured four victories from as many matches in the One-Day Cup, underlining their strong title credentials early in the season.
