Akeal Hosein Set to Join West Indies Squad for Remaining ODIs Against Bangladesh

West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein is set to bolster the squad for the remaining matches of the ongoing three-match ODI series against Bangladesh, after the visitors suffered a heavy defeat in the opening encounter. Hosein is expected to arrive in Dhaka on Monday night to join the team ahead of the second ODI, scheduled to be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

"Akeal is expected to arrive tonight to join the ODI team," a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official confirmed to Cricbuzz.

The inclusion of the experienced left-arm spinner comes in the wake of spin playing a pivotal role in the series opener, where Bangladesh defeated the visitors by 74 runs. The sluggish and spin-friendly Dhaka pitch saw spinners dominate proceedings, prompting both teams to strengthen their spin departments.

While West Indies’ Khary Pierre impressed with a tight spell of 1 for 19 in 10 overs, it was Roston Chase who claimed two wickets with his offspin. However, the match belonged to Bangladesh’s spin duo Rishad Hossain and Tanvir Islam, who combined for eight wickets, dismantling the West Indies batting lineup.

In response to the conditions, Bangladesh have also added Nasum Ahmed, another left-arm spinner, to their squad for the rest of the series.

In addition to Hosein, the West Indies have drafted in 24-year-old pacer Ramon Simmonds, who is in line for his maiden ODI appearance after featuring in two T20Is. Meanwhile, fast bowlers Jediah Blades and Shamar Joseph, who were part of the ODI setup, will return home to the Caribbean.

The team will also be joined by veteran allrounder Jason Holder, who is scheduled to arrive on October 21 ahead of the T20I leg of the tour.

The second ODI will be crucial for West Indies as they aim to level the series and bounce back from a disappointing performance in the first game.
