David Miller ruled out of Pakistan T20Is; Gerald Coetzee to miss entire white-ball tour

October 23, 2025 — South Africa have suffered a double injury setback ahead of their white-ball tour of Pakistan, with star batter David Miller and fast bowler Gerald Coetzee both ruled out due to injuries.

Miller, who was set to captain the T20I side in the absence of regular skipper Aiden Markram, has been sidelined by a grade-1 right hamstring strain sustained during training. Scans confirmed the injury on Wednesday, and Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced that he will now undergo a phased rehabilitation program.

In Miller’s absence, Donovan Ferreira has been appointed captain for the three-match T20I series, starting October 28 in Rawalpindi. Ferreira recently led South Africa in a one-off T20I against Namibia, which the team lost by four wickets.

Meanwhile, Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of both the T20I and ODI series due to a pectoral muscle injury sustained during the Namibia T20I. The 25-year-old bowled just 1.3 overs before leaving the field and has since begun a structured rehabilitation program under CSA’s medical team.

South Africa have also lost young left-arm seamer Kwena Maphaka, who is recovering from a hamstring injury suffered during a domestic first-class match earlier this month.

To cover for the absences, Matthew Breetzke and uncapped Tony de Zorzi have been added to the T20I squad, while Ottneil Baartman replaces Coetzee in the ODI squad. Breetzke, who had already been named ODI captain, will now feature in both formats.

The T20I squad departs for Islamabad on October 23, with the ODI series set to begin on November 4 in Faisalabad.
