Two Australian players molested in Indore during Women’s World Cup

Two members of the Australian women’s cricket team were molested by a motorcyclist in Indore ahead of their final Women’s World Cup league match against South Africa on Saturday.

According to a statement from Cricket Australia (CA), the incident occurred on Thursday morning, when the players were walking to a café, a day after Australia’s win over England in the same city.

“CA can confirm two members of the Australian Women’s team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a café in Indore,” the statement read. “The matter was reported by team security to police, who are handling the matter.”

Local media reports indicate that Indore police have arrested a suspect in connection with the incident.

The Australian players are currently based in Indore for their final two league fixtures of the tournament. CA said the safety and wellbeing of its players remains the highest priority, and the team’s security protocols have since been reinforced.

Australia, who sit top of the World Cup points table, need a victory against South Africa to guarantee the No. 1 spot. A win would set up a semi-final clash with India in Navi Mumbai on October 30, while South Africa would face England in Guwahati on October 29.

If Australia lose, the standings would reverse — South Africa would finish first, and Australia would meet England in the first semi-final.
