Tanveer Sangha Replaces Adam Zampa in Australia’s T20I Squad for India Series

Legspinner Tanveer Sangha has been drafted into Australia’s T20I squad for the upcoming series against India, replacing senior spinner Adam Zampa, who will miss the start of the series due to personal reasons.

Zampa’s absence comes as his wife, Harriet, is expecting their second child. The legspinner had earlier missed the first ODI in Perth for the same reason but returned for the Adelaide and Sydney matches, where he was named Player of the Match in Adelaide. Zampa remains Australia’s leading wicket-taker in men’s T20 internationals.

Sangha, 23, who represents Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League, last played for Australia in 2023. He has seven T20I caps and made a memorable debut with figures of 4 for 31 against South Africa.

Recently, the young leggie impressed with seven wickets in three one-day matches for Australia A against India A and currently leads the Marsh One-Day Cup wicket charts with 10 wickets in four matches for New South Wales.

If conditions are suitable, Sangha could team up with left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann to form a two-pronged spin attack.

Australia’s T20I squad is expected to undergo further rotation, with several players balancing commitments across formats. Josh Hazlewood will depart after the first two matches in Canberra and Sydney, while Sean Abbott will leave following the third game in Hobart.

Meanwhile, Mahli Beardman, the 20-year-old quick from Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers, is set to join the squad later in the series and could make his T20I debut.
