Blair Tickner Returns to New Zealand ODI Squad After Jamieson Injury

Experienced seamer Blair Tickner has been recalled to New Zealand’s ODI squad for the ongoing series against England, following Kyle Jamieson’s withdrawal due to a side strain.

Tickner, 32, last represented New Zealand in 2023 and has played 13 ODIs for the Black Caps. He recently featured for Central Districts in the Ford Trophy, taking 1 for 55 in their win over Wellington on Saturday. He is set to join the national squad in Hamilton ahead of the second ODI.

Head coach Rob Walter praised Tickner’s experience and the energy he brings to the bowling attack.

“Blair’s an experienced campaigner and no stranger to international cricket,” Walter said. “He bowls a heavy ball from a decent height with plenty of energy and aggression. In that respect, he can fill a similar role to what Kyle would normally perform.”

New Zealand lead the three-match series 1–0 after securing a four-wicket victory in Mount Maunganui. Despite Harry Brook’s brilliant century rescuing England from 56 for 6, the hosts comfortably chased down a 224-run target, thanks to Daryl Mitchell’s unbeaten 74.

Walter lauded his bowlers for setting the tone early in the series, particularly debutant Zak Foulkes, who claimed 4 for 41, including key wickets of Ben Duckett, Joe Root, and Jacob Bethell.

“It was a good start to the series,” Walter said. “The bowlers were outstanding, and the middle order showed great composure on a tricky wicket. Daryl Mitchell and Michael Bracewell’s experience was invaluable in getting us home.”

With the second ODI to be played at Seddon Park, Walter expects England to come out firing.

“Seddon Park will bring new conditions and challenges,” he added. “We know England will be highly motivated to bounce back and level the series.”
