England Optimistic About Sophie Ecclestone’s Recovery Ahead of World Cup Semi-Final

England are hopeful that star left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone will recover in time for the ICC Women’s World Cup semi-final against South Africa on Wednesday (October 29), after an MRI scan revealed a minor injury to the joint near her collar bone.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the update in a statement, noting that Ecclestone will continue to be monitored closely in the lead-up to the crucial fixture.

“Results of an MRI scan on Sophie Ecclestone's left shoulder indicate a minor injury to the joint next to her collar bone. She will continue to be assessed ahead of Wednesday's ICC Women's World Cup semi-final against South Africa,” the ECB said.

Ecclestone has been a key figure in England’s campaign so far, taking 12 wickets in six matches at an economy rate of 3.98. She currently stands as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, level with teammate Linsey Smith.

England finished second on the points table with 11 points, winning five matches and sharing points with Pakistan after a washout.

Team management remains optimistic that Ecclestone, who has been instrumental in controlling the middle overs, will be fit to feature in the semi-final as England chase a place in the Women’s World Cup final.
