Suryakumar Yadav Named in Mumbai Squad for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has been included in Mumbai’s squad for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which begins on November 26. The defending champions will be led by allrounder Shardul Thakur, who heads a 17-member squad featuring senior names such as Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, Sarfaraz Khan, and promising youngster Ayush Mhatre.
Suryakumar’s return to Mumbai’s T20 setup comes ahead of India’s home T20I series against South Africa, beginning December 9. While he enjoyed a stellar IPL 2025 campaign for Mumbai Indians—scoring 717 runs at a strike rate of 167.91—his international form has dipped, with just 184 runs in 15 T20I innings this year at an average of 15.33.
India are set for a packed T20 schedule leading into the 2026 T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with ten home T20Is lined up—five each against South Africa and New Zealand.
Like Suryakumar, Shivam Dube will also use the domestic tournament for valuable match practice, having batted in only six of India’s last 11 T20Is across the Asia Cup and the Australia series, scoring 76 runs off 60 balls.
Mumbai, the reigning champions after defeating Madhya Pradesh in the 2024–25 final, will kick off their title defence against Railways in Lucknow.
