Somerset Appoint Former Australia Allrounder Erin Osborne as Women’s Head Coach

Somerset have appointed Erin Osborne, the former Australia allrounder, as their new women’s head coach on a three-year contract. Osborne succeeds Trevor Griffin, who stepped down after the club’s inaugural season in the newly professional Tier 1 county structure.

Osborne, 36, represented Australia 121 times between 2009 and 2016 before retiring from domestic cricket in 2022. Since hanging up her boots, she has held several coaching roles with the ACT Meteors in Canberra, earning recognition as an emerging coaching talent in Australian cricket.

Expressing her excitement about the new role, Osborne said:
"I'm thrilled to be joining Somerset as women's head coach. This is an incredible opportunity to work with a club that has a proud history and a passionate supporter base. I look forward to building on the strong foundations already in place and working closely with the players, coaches, and support staff as we strive for continued growth and success."

Somerset endured a difficult campaign last season, finishing bottom of their Vitality Blast group, though their performance in the One-Day Cup showed promise, with six wins from 14 matches—just short of qualifying for the knockout stages.

Somerset director of cricket Andy Hurry praised Osborne’s credentials and vision, noting:
"Erin was the standout candidate for the position, and her knowledge and experience, aligned with her drive to succeed, really resonated with the panel. Her coaching path has given her a deep understanding of how to construct effective programmes, inspire players, and improve performance across female and male pathways."

He added that her reputation in Australia and her strategic approach will be crucial as Somerset aims to build on their first year of professional women’s cricket at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

Osborne will now lead Somerset Women into what the club hopes will be a new era of growth and competitiveness.
