Dawid Malan Signs Two-Year Deal with Gloucestershire After Yorkshire Exit

Former England batter Dawid Malan has joined Gloucestershire on a two-year contract and will represent the club in the 2026 and 2027 editions of the Vitality Blast. The move marks the third county of his career and comes shortly after his departure from Yorkshire by mutual consent.

Malan, 38, captained Yorkshire in 2025 and finished as their leading run-scorer in the Blast in both 2023 and 2024. Before joining the Headingley side, he spent 13 seasons with Middlesex, where he played a key role in their 2008 Championship title win.

The left-hander retired from international cricket following the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, concluding a career that included eight centuries across formats. He rose to No.1 in the ICC T20I batting rankings and became the fastest player to reach 1,000 T20I runs, achieving the feat in just 24 innings. Malan was also part of England’s triumphant 2022 T20 World Cup campaign, though he missed the final due to injury, and featured in the last two Ashes tours, highlighted by a 140 at Perth in 2017-18.

Despite stepping back from England duty, Malan remains a prominent figure on the global T20 circuit. He recently lifted the Bangladesh Premier League title with Fortune Barishal and is currently competing in Nepal.

Gloucestershire, who lifted the T20 Blast trophy in 2024, see Malan as a major addition as they target further success. His arrival reunites him with director of cricket Jon Lewis and head coach Mark Alleyne, both of whom he worked with during his England career.

“Gloucestershire are a team with real ambition to challenge for the T20 Blast next season, and I am pleased and excited to be joining the club,” Malan said. “Jon Lewis and Mark Alleyne are putting together a strong squad, and I’m eager to contribute.”

Lewis echoed the enthusiasm, calling Malan’s signing a “huge coup” for the club.
“Players of this calibre are rarely available in the domestic game,” he said. “I know Dawid well from my time with England, and I’m confident he’ll be an excellent fit for our dressing room. His record speaks for itself, and bringing in someone of his global pedigree is a massive boost.”

Malan is expected to play a central role in Gloucestershire’s push for more silverware at the Seat Unique Stadium over the next two seasons.
