WPL 2026 Schedule Announced: Two Double-Headers, Weekday Final, and New January–February Window

WPL 2026 Schedule Announced: Two Double-Headers, Weekday Final, and New January–February Window

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 will run for 28 days across two venues, featuring two double-headers and, for the first time, a weekday final. The tournament will be held from January 9 to February 5, marking a shift from its previous February–March window.

WPL chairman Jayesh George confirmed the dates and venues on Thursday, coinciding with the WPL auction. Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium—fresh from hosting India’s ODI World Cup triumph in early November—will stage the first 11 matches, including both double-headers. The remaining 11 games, including the February 3 eliminator and the February 5 final, will take place at Vadodara’s Kotambi Stadium.

All matches except the early fixtures on double-header days will be played in the evening.

Busy Week in Global Cricket

The WPL final falls in the middle of a congested global cricket week. The men’s Under-19 World Cup concludes on February 6, the day after the WPL final, while the men’s T20 World Cup begins on February 7. Despite this packed schedule, this will be the first season in which the WPL does not directly clash with major international fixtures.

A New Slot for the WPL

WPL 2026 marks the league’s first edition in the January–February window. The earlier three seasons were played just before the IPL in February–March. The shift aims to secure clearer broadcast windows and avoid overlap with international cricket.

Teams and Recent History

Mumbai Indians enter the tournament as defending champions, having claimed two titles in three seasons. Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the only other team to have lifted the trophy, while Delhi Capitals have been runners-up in all three editions so far. Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz remain in search of their maiden finals appearance.

Ten days after the WPL concludes, India’s women begin a full tour of Australia, featuring three T20Is, three ODIs, and a Test from February 15 to March 9.
