Thunder Down Heat Despite Glenn’s Four-For, Litchfield Leads the Charge
Sydney Thunder secured a vital 23-run victory over Brisbane Heat, overcoming their own early collapse before tightening their grip on the contest with the ball. The result leaves Heat anchored to the bottom of the table with just a single point—earned from an earlier abandoned fixture—while Thunder improved their campaign with a solid all-round display.
Chasing 154, Heat were never in the hunt. Thunder’s bowlers ripped through the top order, leaving Heat reeling at 10 for 3 and later 30 for 4 inside the first half of their innings. Their troubles deepened when Chinelle Henry was forced to retire hurt on 10 after taking a Shabnim Ismail bouncer to the jaw.
Annie O’Neil provided some resistance with a brisk 33 off 21 balls, but the mounting required rate proved too great. She fell off the final delivery of the innings, becoming Georgia Voll’s second wicket as Heat closed on 130 for 6.
Earlier, Thunder endured a collapse of their own. After a shaky start that saw them slip to 33 for 4 after the powerplay and later 93 for 6 by the 13th over, Phoebe Litchfield’s composed 61 off 43 balls anchored the recovery. Her innings, featuring eight fours and a six, steadied Thunder before Em Arlott added late momentum with an unbeaten 26 off 19, lifting the total to a competitive 153 for 7.
Sarah Glenn starred for Heat with an impressive 4 for 18, claiming three of Thunder’s first four wickets. Despite her efforts, Heat’s fragile batting left them short once again, extending their winless run and keeping them rooted to the bottom of the standings.
