South Australia Crush Tasmania to Seal Second Straight Sheffield Shield Win
Defending Sheffield Shield champions South Australia head into the BBL break buoyed by a commanding 10-wicket victory over Tasmania at Adelaide Oval, completing a season double over their opponents after another dominant performance.
Less than a month after defeating the Tigers in Hobart, SA again proved far too strong, despite missing captain Nathan McSweeney (Australia A duty) and pace spearhead Brendan Doggett (Ashes squad). A powerful first-innings batting display laid the platform as Liam Scott (147) and Jake Lehmann (100) combined to steer the hosts to 426, securing a substantial 231-run advantage.
Tasmania, without Test opener Jake Weatherald and allrounder Beau Webster, were bundled out for just 195 on the opening day. Their second innings showed more resistance, with Tim Ward (66), skipper Jordan Silk (46) and Nikhil Chaudhary (42) pushing them to 260, but it was never enough to erase the deficit.
South Australian quick Jordan Buckingham was the standout performer across the match, claiming 4 for 49 in the first innings and 4 for 58 in the second. His third-day burst included trapping Ruwantha Kellapotha lbw with a full toss and dismissing Chaudhary with a catch down the leg side. Nathan McAndrew also played a key role, breaking Ward’s resistance with a well-executed delivery that sneaked between bat and pad.
Set a target of just 30, openers Mackenzie Harvey and Henry Hunt polished off the chase within six overs, sealing an emphatic win.
The result was crucial for South Australia, who entered the round in fourth place, narrowly behind Tasmania. After opening their title defence with three consecutive losses, the Redbacks have surged back into contention and now sit within reach of another finals berth as the competition pauses for the BBL.
