Nick Browne Appointed Essex Women’s Batting Coach in Major Coaching Restructure

Essex have appointed former opening batter Nick Browne as assistant coach and batting lead for their women’s team, marking his first move into coaching following a distinguished playing career. The 34-year-old, who announced his retirement at the end of the 2025 County Championship season, scored nearly 10,000 runs across all formats, including 22 centuries and a career-best 255 against Derbyshire in 2016.

Browne’s arrival forms part of a significant overhaul of Essex Women’s coaching structure after a disappointing first season as a Tier 1 team. His appointment follows the recent hiring of former left-arm spinner Stephen Parry as head coach, replacing Andy Tennant, who departed earlier in the year. Former academy coach Cath Dalton has also been promoted to seam-bowling lead, completing the revamped coaching lineup.

Speaking about his new role, Browne said he was excited to begin the next phase of his career:
“I am really enthusiastic at this new challenge and chapter. I spent some time with Essex Women during the summer and thoroughly enjoyed it, so to be offered the role full-time is really exciting. After my retirement, I was determined to get into coaching and share the knowledge I’ve gained over the years. The group here is very talented and I hope I can help deliver success in the short and long term.”

Essex director of cricket Chris Silverwood said Browne’s experience and temperament made him the ideal fit:
“Nick was the perfect choice to take on the role as Essex Women’s assistant coach and batting lead. His professionalism, calm leadership, and deep understanding of the game make him an excellent mentor for our women’s squad. Alongside Stephen Parry, I’m confident his influence will elevate the team and inspire them to reach new heights.”

The appointments aim to reset Essex Women’s trajectory as they prepare for the upcoming season with renewed structure and ambition.
