Under-19 Asia Cup: Abhigyan Kundu Smashes Unbeaten 209 as India Pile Up 408 Against Malaysia

India’s wicketkeeper-batter Abhigyan Kundu produced a sensational batting display in the Under-19 Asia Cup, slamming an unbeaten 209 off 125 balls against Malaysia in Dubai to power India to a massive 408 for 7.

Walking in at No. 5 in the 11th over, Kundu batted through the remainder of the innings, anchoring and accelerating with remarkable control. His double-century, however, does not carry official Youth ODI status, as the India–Malaysia fixture falls outside that classification. As a result, South Africa’s Jorich Van Schalkwyk, who scored 215 off 153 balls against Zimbabwe earlier this year, remains the only batter with a recognised Youth ODI double-century. Bangladesh’s Soumya Sarkar had also struck 209 off 135 balls against Qatar in 2012, but that match too lacked official Youth ODI status.

Kundu took charge of India’s innings after Vaibhav Suryavanshi provided a brisk start, scoring a 26-ball 50. The right-hander then stitched together a monumental 209-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Vedant Trivedi, who scored 90 off 106 balls. The stand lasted from the 11th to the 41st over, completely deflating the Malaysian bowling attack.

When Trivedi was dismissed, Kundu was already cruising on 128 off 92 balls. He shifted gears dramatically in the final ten overs, plundering 81 runs off 33 deliveries to propel India beyond the 400-run mark. The innings added to Kundu’s impressive run in the tournament, having earlier scored 32 not out off 17 balls against UAE and 22 off 32 balls against Pakistan.

For Malaysia, Muhammad Akram was the standout bowler, returning figures of 5 for 89 from his ten overs. The left-arm medium pacer accounted for key wickets, including Suryavanshi, Vihaan Malhotra and Harvansh Pangalia.

India currently sit atop Group A, having earlier registered wins over UAE and Pakistan, while Malaysia remain at the bottom of the table, having lost all their group matches so far.
