Tilak Varma Rises to No. 4 as Chakravarthy Tightens Grip on Top T20I Bowling Ranking
India’s Varun Chakravarthy has further consolidated his position as the world’s leading T20I bowler, while Tilak Varma has climbed to a career-best fourth spot in the ICC men’s T20I batting rankings following the opening three matches of the ongoing series against South Africa.
Chakravarthy has been the standout performer of the series so far, claiming six wickets at an impressive average of 9.83 and conceding runs at an economy rate of just 5.36. His consistent impact with the ball has ensured he remains firmly entrenched at the top of the ICC bowling charts.
In the batting rankings, Tilak Varma’s rise has been driven by two crucial contributions. He struck a fighting 62 off 34 balls in the second T20I — the only half-century in an otherwise difficult innings for India — before following it up with a composed unbeaten 26 off 34 deliveries to guide his side to victory in a low-scoring chase in the third match. Those performances lifted him two places to No. 4.
Despite scoring only 69 runs across three innings, Abhishek Sharma continues to lead the T20I batting rankings.
Among South African players, Quinton de Kock made a significant jump, moving up 14 places to 53rd after his blistering 90 in the second T20I. Aiden Markram also climbed the charts, rising eight spots to 29th following his 69 in the third match, even as South Africa were dismissed for just 117.
India pacer Arshdeep Singh, named Player of the Match for his figures of 2 for 13 in Dharamshala, moved up four places to 16th in the bowling rankings. South Africa’s Marco Jansen surged 14 spots to 25th, while Lungi Ngidi climbed 11 places to 44th.
There were notable movements in the Test rankings as well, particularly for New Zealand players following the second Test against West Indies. Devon Conway’s scores of 60 and 28 helped him rise seven places to 34th among batters. Debutant Mitchell Hay entered the rankings at joint-78th after top-scoring in the match with 61.
In the bowling rankings, Jacob Duffy’s impressive second-innings haul of 5 for 38 propelled him up 15 places to a career-best 48th.
The updated rankings reflect the impact of recent international performances across formats, with several players gaining momentum as major series continue around the world.
