Joshua Dorne to Lead West Indies at 2026 Men’s Under-19 World Cup

Top-order batter Joshua Dorne has been named captain of the West Indies squad for the Men’s Under-19 World Cup, to be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia in January–February 2026. Allrounder Jonathan Van Lange has been appointed vice-captain.

The 15-member squad also includes highly rated 19-year-old batter Jewel Andrew, who has already made the step up to senior international cricket, featuring in three ODIs and five T20Is for the West Indies.

West Indies head into the tournament following two seven-match Youth ODI series at home against Sri Lanka and England, which served as key preparation for the global event. Dorne was the leading run-scorer for West Indies in both series, with Van Lange finishing close behind. Several players who featured prominently in those series have also earned selection for the World Cup, including Zachary Carter, Matthew Miller, Jakeem Pollard, Shaquan Belle and Vitel Lawes.

Pollard was particularly impressive with the ball, claiming 18 wickets at an average of 16.27 across the two series. Belle picked up 15 wickets in nine matches, while Lawes rebounded strongly after a quiet series against England to take 14 wickets at 14.92 in six games against Sri Lanka.

Cricket West Indies’ High Performance Manager, Dwain Gill, said the squad selection reflected a clear pathway to the senior game. “In assembling this group, we have aligned their development with the style of play we expect at the senior level, ensured exposure to high-quality match opportunities, and placed a strong focus on leadership, tactical awareness and individual support within their territories,” Gill said.

At the Under-19 World Cup, West Indies have been placed in Group D alongside South Africa, Afghanistan and Tanzania. They will begin their campaign against Tanzania in Windhoek on January 15.
